Fibromyalgia...Poorly Understood and Best Addressed Holistically

September 1, 2018

Fibromyalgia is a common, little-understood condition that is seven times more likely to affect women than men. It is characterised by widespread pain and fatigue and can be difficult to diagnose.

Conventional medical approaches rarely address the root causes of fibromyalgia and often time their side effects contribute to sufferers misery. Most people are only given pharmaceutical options including: gabapentin, antidepressants and pain killers. A holistic-minded and integrative medical approach to fibromyalgia starts with assessing for and addressing the following issues:

Low functional cortisol levels

Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO)

Lyme disease

Neurotransmitter imbalances

Mold exposure

Hypothyroidism/ poorly managed hypothyroidism

Too often the time, fibromyalgia suffers are shut out of conventional medical services or have souring attitudes towards them. Our integrative medical clinic in Stillwater, MN we have "cured" many people of fibromyalgia after first diagnosing the contributing factors that create the body's internal environment that supports the symptoms associated with fibromyalgia.

Below is a wonderful video produced by the BBC that discusses fibromyalgia from women suffers point of view.
